Zimbabwe: Child Labour Reflection

After researching about Zimbabwe, I had found out that Child Labour in this country is a big problem. Instead of children having a normal childhood playing around and attending school, they're are attending work. The kids in Zimbabwe are abandoned by their parents with these children becoming orphans. They are then left to fight for themselves so they end up working, with no school education. Kids in this country aren't given any education because they can not afford books, uniform and other school equipment. These kids are even forced out of schools to leave and start working. With these children work long hours every day with cotton plantations, tea, sugarcane, as well as fishing industries. During work they are put in a lot of danger, experiencing physical injuries and mutilations from the machinery they work with. But one effect that I feel is really bad is the pesticide poisoning because 40,000 kids die from it every year.

But even though things look really bad for the kids in this country, there are organisations that are trying to prevent child labour and try and get people to donate money to them, to help these kids survive. These are two organisations, that are trying to prevent child labour, UNICEF and World Vision.

After finding out so much about Zimbabwe, I have realised how lucky I am and am very thankful for everything I have in my life. I might not have the best things in the world, but I have a school education, have a family and just, a chance, something that isn't just given to many children in Child Labour. Related image

The Darker Side of Chocolate

Image result for fair trade logoToday in Social Studies we were shown a video called, The Darker Side of Chocolate. After watching this video I had realized, in Ghana, child labour is a big problem. I had found out that very young children, even younger than 10 years old had been working on Cocoa Bean farms 7 hours a day, some even longer. Some children were even forced by there parents to work because they didn't get enough money. This video had showed me that while people like me are enjoying all the chocolate they could eat, there are children in Ghana who are working and making the product,7 hours a day and these children haven't even tasted the chocolate. But still, even though these children work very hard, they still don't have enough money to even feed the family.

So an organisation, Fair trade, decided to sell the chocolate that some of these people in Ghana make, paying them good money and helping them out,UNLESS the children are free and not working. So I recommend that people start buying chocolates that have the Fair Trade logo, because all that money goes to help people struggling in Ghana.

Social Studies: Why I Chose this Country, Zimbabwe

In Social Studies we have been learning about child labour and how bad and common child labour is in a lot of countries. So today my Social Studies teacher has given us the choice to pick a country. My group decided to choose Zimbabwe because we realised how bad child labour is in this country and it seems interesting so we just want to look into it.

Atoms and Electrons

Atoms are the smallest particles of a chemical element that can exist having parts called the nucleus and outer shells or orbit. The nucleus contains neutrons which have no charge and are neutral and protons a positive charge. On the outer shells, there are electrons, which produce a negative charge. These electrons can be gained, lost or shared, depending on how many are left on the last shell.

The Cell

Cells are the building blocks of life. In these cells there is a thin transparent sheet controls what goes in, and what goes out, this is called the cell membrane. In the middle of everything there is a dark circular spot which is called the nucleus, the nucleus contains the genes and control centre of the cell. The cell also has the watery jelly like substance which has the nutrients and chemicals. The cytoplasm also holds all the cell organelles together. The cell also has mitochondria, which is the part which performs respiration and gives energy to the cell. The cell also has chloroplast and a cell wall, but they are only found in plant cells. The chloroplast makes sugar for the plant and the cell wall protects the plant from getting infections.
